Two Years in South Africa

November 2018, Issue 19

Hello again, and welcome to our ongoing family story. That’s what this newsletter is. It’s the month-to-month highlights of our family life, and how we are moving toward fulfilling our dreams through the building of The Omni Foundation, and our family domain. One day, in the far future, our descendants will look back and see how their ancestors influenced their own lives, the Earth’s and others’. Right now, it’s primarily our family’s experiences that are highlighted, but we are certain that in the near future, other families and individuals will factor into the narrative.

Like every other month since the two years we’ve been together as a family, October 2018 had its share of highlights.

Looking Back

Happy 10th Birthday Eden!

Ice skating with her BFF, Mari, and her brother Dylan, watching Hotel Transylvania 3, and lunch at Spur, then cake and ice cream with more neighbors, Eden Eleanor Pauls had a very happy birth-week.

You are growing up with beauty, intelligence, wisdom, grace, an independent spirit and a kind and tender heart. Here’s to celebrating you!

Field trip to the oldest known caves on earth

Since we home-school the kids, we have freedom to go where we want, when we want. Most Tuesdays, while our maid, Nolsina, is cleaning our little loft apartment, we get out, either to a local scenic spot, to the city, or we take a field trip to explore the land around us and get a feel for areas where we might like to settle.

This time we visited the Sudwala Caves, the oldest known caves in the world are merely an hour’s drive away! In addition to the caves, the beautifully created “Butterfly Effect” is a habitat, built among the natural surroundings, to attract wildlife and encourage Earth friendly habits.

The feel and scenic beauty of this area is appealing, as are the efforts of the Sudwala Cave land-owners to nurture and care for Mother Earth.

Unfortunately, much of Mpumalanga’s mountain range is blanketed by timber crops. Though the green landscape of growing pines and eucalyptus can be lovely, the effects on the eco-system are not.

In our efforts to create a healthy, beautiful and sustainable space, that affects the Earth in a positive way, we believe the surrounding landscape should reflect and connect with our values.

CELEBRATING 2-YEARS TOGETHER!

October 27th 2018, marked two-years from the first day our family came together; our first meeting of the eyes; our first hugs and kisses. Our final confirmation that we were meant to be. May we never forget the Love and losses that led us here, and may we create a celebration worthy of that day.

Perhaps it is no coincidence that on that Saturday evening, rather than playing music at the Oktoberfest school fundraiser in Sabie, with new friend, Lella Smyth, we all shared a lovely dinner together, getting to know one another’s family. The fundraising committee had to reduce the live music line-up to two bands per night, and we didn’t make the cut, which was alright with us because beer festivals aren’t really our thing. Lella and her family have lived in the area for more than 20 years, working in the art and tourism industries. We shared an amazing instant connection with this family, and foresee many co-creative opportunities ahead.

We finished the “Ringing Cedars” series!

Whether fact or fiction, these books ring deeply within our hearts, and are helping to define our image of what The Omni Foundation will be. Based on the story of Vladimir Megre’s encounters with Anastasia, an extraordinary recluse in the Siberian Tiaga, the books present an image of the revitalization of Earth by turning away from the technocratic ways of modern life, and focusing our love, energy and attention on perfecting our own family domains—a hectare of land that provides sustenance and livelihood for ourselves and our progeny. Call them kin domains, family homesteads, family domains, whatever, the point is that the only way to stop the destruction of Earth is to begin to take care of it, and the only way to do that on a global scale is for each family to re-create its own paradise, its own space of Love, perfecting the land at our own feet. The Omni Foundation takes the concept a step further, by inviting together a community that will work toward the common good in the industries of hospitality, education, health/healing, publishing, recording and other forms of artistic production.

Ten books in two-and-a-half months! That’s how much we read, which serves to illustrate the precious gift of time we have been given to enrich our minds and souls, together. We believe this time has been a very necessary part of our growth and maturity to prepare us for what lies ahead. Once we have settled on our land, our hearts, hands and minds will be occupied with more Earthly pursuits. Download book 1 here.

Looking forward

-We are working steadily on our next book, one step at a time.

-Looking forward to local music opportunities as we meet more local musicians. Details in next month’s issue.

-Still awaiting that potentially significant occurrence….

-We are also considering multiple ways of funding the purchase of property. There are several potential options, some could take much longer than others. Of course, we’d love for things to happen sooner than later, but nothing will be forced or rushed, and getting into debt is not an option. So, we continue to pray for guidance, wisdom and miracles.

Looking down

On the landscape of a new awakening, the sun is beginning to rise. We, the people, are opening our eyes to the realities of what humanity has done to itself and to Mother Earth, and we realize we cannot continue in this nightmare of life as we know it. Some of us, many of us, have felt a calling to leave the technocratic system behind, and begin doing life differently, more in tune with Earth and others, working happily together to save our planet and restore it to abundant life. The key to success is in coming together, synergistically, like nature does, connecting with other elements to co-create life and beauty.

Looking out

Speaking of co-creation, this month we highlight the work of Aurelie Lemier and her “Voice the Change” campaign.
